As any cannasseur would know, sativas tend to give that energizing head high while indicas tend to give more full-body relaxing effects. Well, what about hybrids? Hybrids are a cross between two different strains of weed, and can come with a variety of effects, each one different from the next. (If you want to learn more, check out our in-depth article about that here.)
The wonderful thing about hybrids is they can provide a best-of-both-worlds high. And if you’re going for the best of both worlds, you’ll probably want to know which hybrids are, well, the best.
So, without further ado, here are Mistifi’s picks for the 10 best hybrid strains.
The sativa-dominant cross between the popular strains Blueberry indica and Haze sativa, Blue Dream is a hybrid for everyone. And don’t let the name fool you, despite the word “dream,” this hybrid brings the energy. With a prominent berry taste and average THC levels of around 18%, this delicious and long-lasting strain will have you up and moving.
OG Kush doesn’t need much of an introduction, as it’s been one of the most prominent hybrid strains for nearly 30 years. Its exact lineage isn’t known for certain, but the research suggests some mix of Hindu Kush, Chemdawg, and Lemon Thai. If you’re looking for a classic high that brings out your social side (and a solid case of the munchies), OG Kush isn’t going anywhere.
Gorilla Glue #4 (aka GG4 aka Original Glue)
Gorilla Glue gets its name probably from the fact that it hits hard and glues you to the couch. With average THC levels of around 26%, GG4 is a potent sativa-heavy hybrid. With that said, this strain is more of a weekend or end-of-the-day experience. As for GG4’s background, it has a long list due to backcrossing, making it a child of Sour Diesel, Chocolate Diesel, Sour Dubb, and Chem’s Sister.
What do you get when you mix two top-tier dessert-themed strains? That’s right, another top-tier dessert-themed strain. The child of Cherry Pie and Girl Scout Cookies (GSC), Wedding Cake is an indica-leaning hybrid that boasts an average of 25% THC levels. Somehow both sweet and peppery, this strain is great if you’re looking for a relaxed and euphoric high. It’ll leave you craving some actual cake, and is perfect to have on hand if you plan to incorporate cannabis at your wedding.
A famously resin-heavy hybrid out of the Netherlands, White Widow is another strain that has held a spot amongst the best hybrid strains for somewhere around 30 years. It’s fairly balanced, but leans towards sativa, and therefore has a quick uplifting effect. At around 16% THC levels on average, White Widow won’t put you out of commission despite its slightly ominous name.
Girl Scout Cookies (aka GSC)
Everybody loves girl scout cookies. And now, if you love hybrid weed, you love Girl Scout Cookies X2. This indica-leaning hybrid comes from a cross of two super popular strains, OG Kush and Durban Poison, and despite its friendly name, packs a punch. At around 20% to 25% average THC levels, GSC comes at you with a sweet flavor, and then quickly takes over your body. You’ll definitely want a couple boxes of girl scout cookies and a really comfy seat when it comes to consuming GSC.
The candy-like cross between Zkittlez and Gelato, Runtz is an evenly balanced hybrid strain that has burst onto the scene in the last few years. Leafly’s 2020 Strain of the Year, Runtz packs a solid 20% to 24% THC level, and gives a nice long-lasting and relaxing experience. Despite the candy-like name, smell, and flavor, this hybrid strain is definitely a nighttime treat.
Something about the best hybrids being dessert-themed, they just keep coming. Gelato is special in that it has an almost countless number of sub-varieties, and pretty much all of them are absolutely great (you’ll often hear “Larry Bird” as the nickname for Gelato #33, which tends to be one of the most popular Gelato sub-types). The parent strains for the overarching Gelato hybrid are Thin Mint GSC and Sunset Sherbet, and you’ll often find Gelato to be quite well-balanced. The THC levels come in at about 20%, depending on the variant, but you’ll find that both the mind and body effects are no joke.
Named after its sweet, rich, and may we say, potent smell, Cherry Pie is an indica-leaning hybrid that hits just right. The product of Grandaddy Purple and Durban Poison, Cherry Pie draws from the strength of its parents, providing a balanced high that is equally as good for hitting the town as it is for kicking-up your feet up and just chilling at home. At around 20% THC levels, you’ll feel the solid effects while maintaining your ability to function.
A nicely balanced hybrid, Chiquita Banana is a cross between Banana OG and OG Kush. Talk about some good genetics. What really makes this hybrid stand out is its outrageous potency. We’re talking almost record-setting THC levels of up to 34%!
Hell’s Fire OG
A hybrid from the West Coast, Hell’s Fire OG is as potent as its name might suggest. At around 25% THC levels on average, this strain hits hard and hits fast. It’ll quickly take over your body with a super relaxing effect, but also bring some creative inspiration. If you’re an experienced smoker looking for a potent and quick-hitting hybrid, check out Hell’s Fire OG.
BONUS: Mistifi Oracle Pen
Since we mentioned Hell’s Fire OG, it only feels right to also mention Mistifi’s Oracle cart. Made from a Solventless Cured Resin, Oracle blends some great hybrid strains into one premium hybrid experience. With a mix of Wunderdog, Hell’s Fire OG, and Horchata, one draw is all you need for a perfectly balanced calm, focused, and creative effect.
